The Program

Introduction
Quake Motion V1.0 is a earthquake simulator and animation studio developed by Netdoo Software for University of British Columbia Department of Civil Engineering
Installation
Unzip/Extract the contents of qm.zip Run Setup.exe and install the program to any directory You can then start the program by clicking on Start Menu, Programs and then Quake Motion
File Menu
The file menu lets your load and save a range of files. You can load a sample project from the files directory

Edit Project Box
Edit Project Menu can be loaded from File/Edit Project File and it allows you to Edit/Update or compose new projects from existing geo/cfg,dis, & bch files

Displacement Channel Load Menu
Every time you load a project file you can select how many channels you would like to load, as well as the duration and delta time

Sensor Mode
Node Properties
Once the project is loaded, it opens the file in sensor mode, which provides you with a range of options

Animation Mode
Quad View
Once you load the project file and the record information channels you are given an option of animation mode which brings up the quad view

Animation Controls
These controls are only visible during the animation mode, and they let you play around with the earthquake simulation

Side Menu & Avi Save
Side bar has many neat features like the rotation pad, render options, view selection, bmp save and avi save. The rotation pad which works best in sensor mode lets you quickly view the building from any angle. The view combo box lets you select which view you'd like to save into bmp or avi. In Animation Mode, the avi option is available, and you can save the entire earthquake simulation or a defined range. You can also select frames per second as well as keyframe. Microsoft Video 1 is the ideal codec for saving this type of animation.
 
Displacement Plots
Provided that the dis file has been loaded, you can preview the displacement plots for all or a range of channels using the Graph Display

Next Step - Quake Motion 3D
Quake Motion 3D will be an earthquake simulator and 3D Rendering animation studio. This version will come standard with a resizable quad-view structure and easy select view option. It will allows users to import sensor data and re-simulate the earthquake real time. Users will then be able to rotate and pan around from any perspective as the action takes place. Included will be an option to save the animation in variety of formats or export for presentation in PowerPoint
